Six Sentence Sunday – 2/13/2011

Hello! Welcome to my Six Sentence Sunday post. To see everyone’s post check out http://sixsunday.blogspot.com/.

My 6 sentences today come from Huntress book 3, Only Vampires Cry Blood. This comes from a scene where werewolf Alexa O’Brien dishes out some ass kicking to an unwelcome werewolf trespassing on her turf.

I laughed, thoroughly amused. “I love seeing that look in your eyes, that horrifying realization that you guys were all wrong about me.”

He tried to shake his head, but I held his neck pinned too tightly. I wasn’t in the mood to chat. Dragging a claw along the side of his neck, I opened up a thick gash that instantly dripped fat crimson drops. Something tightened inside my stomach, almost painfully, as the bloodlust came on strong.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Everyday should be a love day, shouldn’t it? Welcome to the Valentine’s Day blog hop! It kicks off at http://justromance.me/bloghop

This year I decided to showcase some amazing love stories or moments in time. I hope you enjoy it. Happy Valentine’s Day! Much love to all.

This kiss is one of the most famous in the world. And I can see why. I love it so much, I have a t-shirt with this picture on it. Edith Shain was discovered to be the woman in the photo. She died in 2010 at the age of 91. Many people have come forward claiming to be the man though it hasn’t been narrowed down to the exact one as far as I’ve found. You can read more about it HERE.

Is there anything as beautiful as love reunited after so many years? A letter that had fallen behind a fireplace mantel kept two lovers apart for more than a decade. It was only when the fireplace was removed for renovation that the letter was discovered.

Steve, of Paignton, Devon, said: ‘When we met again it was like a film. We ran across the airport into each other’s arms.

This story made me a little weepy. I’m a sucker for true love. Click HERE to read more of this moving story.

60 years apart…that is a lifetime. Anna and Boris lived this tale, one of the most amazing love stories I’ve been lucky enough to encounter.

When Anna Kozlov caught sight of the elderly man clambering out of a car in her home village of Borovlyanka in Siberia, she stopped dead in her tracks, convinced her eyes were playing tricks.

There, in front of her, was Boris, the man she had fallen in love with and married 60 years earlier. The last time she had seen him was three days after their wedding, when she kissed him goodbye and sent him off to rejoin his Red Army unit.

“I thought my eyes were playing games with me,” Anna said. “I saw this familiar looking man approaching me, his eyes gazing at me. My heart jumped. I knew it was him. I was crying with joy.”

This is an article worth reading. I couldn’t get to the end without crying. Find it HERE.

Happy Valentine’s Day! And remember:

Six Sentence Sunday 2/6/11

This is my first time doing Six Sentence Sunday. I’ve selected six sentences from book 1 in my Huntress series, ONCE BITTEN. This tidbit comes from an exchange between werewolf Alexa and vampire Arys Knight. To see more SSS posts visit http://sixsunday.blogspot.com/.

“So even pushing me away now is selfish and based on what suits you best. So typically the vampire.”
“That I am,” he growled even as he spread my legs and pressed his hard length against me. “Never forget it, or you’ll be mine forever.”
I considered debating that but thought better of it. He was firm against me, and I drew a shuddery breath, conflicted.

Five Card Stud by Gem Sivad

New release from historical western romance author Gem Sivad!

When bounty hunter Sam McCallister sees Eden Pace playing poker for the first time, he loses all interest in the cards; instead, the thought of playing stud with the lady gambler stirs his cock to life. Eden’s the prettiest woman and the best card sharp Sam’s ever met. Good thing he has a few cards up his sleeve.

Eden’s doing her own outlaw hunting. She’s on the trail of her husband’s killer and Sam’s in her way. To get free of this hardheaded, softhearted, gorgeous man, Eden tries strip poker and naked truth-or-dare, but when Sam ups the stakes, carnal submission and desire are unleashed.

When Sam discovers Eden’s wanted for murder, he figures his bed is the safest place for her. But taking Eden prisoner isn’t as easy as Sam expects. He’s in a high-stakes poker game with lust on the table and his heart on the line, because one taste of Eden just isn’t enough.

Excerpt:

“What do you plan to do with me?” Eden asked over her shoulder as she disrobed. Sam could see that she didn’t intend to play shy around him. That was good, because if she was waiting for him to look away, she’d be an old woman when she gave up.

“Plenty.” He worked the one word through lips almost as stiff as his cock. She was a sight to see and she knew it, standing there flaunting her wares at him.

“All right,” she huffed. Her words were filled with irritation as she stepped out of dress and chemise in one fluid motion. “Is that what this is about?” She sounded genuinely surprised when she asked, “You’re not interested in the bounty?”

Eden turned to face him as she gathered her long mane of hair, re-pinning it on top of her head. She stood naked on the rim of the rock pool, surrounded by torchlight.

Jesus, the woman’s trying to kill me.  Savoring the creamy skin covering her slender curves, he followed the lift of her arm and watched her rounded breast tilt upward. Licking lips suddenly gone dry, Sam let his eyes center on the patch of dark curls at the V of her thighs. He admitted gruffly, “You were on the top of my wanted list as soon as I set eyes on you. Handbill or not, I’d have claimed you.”

Fun Vampire Facts

In honor of Halloween, here are some interesting vampire facts I’ve found in my internet travels.

1. The Muppet vampire, Count von Count from Sesame Street, is based on actual vampire myth. One way to supposedly deter a vampire is to throw seeds (usually mustard) outside a door or place fishing net outside a window. Vampires are compelled to count the seeds or the holes in the net, delaying them until the sun comes up.

2. Vampire hysteria and corpse mutilations to “kill” suspected vampires were so pervasive in Europe during the mid-eighteenth century that some rulers created laws to prevent the unearthing of bodies. In some areas, mass hysteria led to public executions of people believed to be vampires.

3. Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1897) remains an enduring influence on vampire mythology and has never gone out of print.

4. Garlic, a traditional vampire repellent, has been used as a form of protection for over 2,000 years. The ancient Egyptians believed garlic was a gift from God, Roman soldiers thought it gave them courage, sailors believed it protected them from shipwreck, and German miners believed it protected them from evil spirits when they went underground. In several cultures, brides carried garlic under their clothes for protection, and cloves of garlic were used to protect people from a wide range of illnesses. Modern-day scientists found that the oil in garlic, allicin, is a highly effective antibiotic.

5. Folklore vampires can become vampires not only through a bite, but also if they were once a werewolf, practiced sorcery, were excommunicated, committed suicide, were an illegitimate child of parents who were illegitimate, or were still born or died before baptism. In addition, anyone who has eaten the flesh of a sheep killed by a wolf, was a seventh son, was the child of a pregnant woman who was looked upon by a vampire, was a nun who stepped over an unburied body, had teeth when they were born, or had a cat jump on their corpse before being buried could also turn into vampires.

6. In vampire folklore, a vampire initially emerges as a soft blurry shape with no bones. He was “bags of blood” with red, glowing eyes and, instead of a nose, had a sharp snout that he sucked blood with. If he could survive for 40 days, he would then develop bones and a body and become much more dangerous and difficult to kill.

7. Certain regions in the Balkans believed that fruit, such as pumpkins or watermelons, would become vampires if they were left out longer than 10 days or not consumed by Christmas. Vampire pumpkins or watermelons generally were not feared because they do not have teeth. A drop of blood on a fruit’s skin is a sign that it is about to turn into a vampire.

8. By the end of the twentieth century, over 300 motion pictures were made about vampires, and over 100 of them featured Dracula. Over 1,000 vampire novels were published, most within the past 25 years.

Print News

At this time I have put book 1 of my Huntress series, Once Bitten, into print. It can be ordered via Amazon.com or through another source which is listed on the Once Bitten page.

Due to demand, I will also be releasing Huntress book 2, The Wicked Kiss, in print as well. It will be available through the same outlets. I hope I can count on my readers to help me spread the word. Ebook sales are booming and they are currently much higher than print at several online retailers. However, I understand that some people just have to have a print copy. If demand and sales are decent, I will also put book 3, Only Vampires Cry Blood, into print as well.

As soon as The Wicked Kiss is available for order, I will have links on The Wicked Kiss page found under the Books page and I will announce it in my blog and on twitter.
