My Werewolf Rules

Not long ago I blogged on the vampire rules and my own personal rules. Since werewolves also play a large role in my work, I’m going to focus this post on my werewolf rules. Since all authors and folk lore have variations of the rules, these are mine but I invite you to comment with your own or your opinion of them.
Immortality. My werewolves are not immortal in the same sense that a vampire is. They are very much alive with beating hearts and are as mortal as any human. However, they do have advantages other mortal creatures do not have. They live longer than the average human, much longer. They also have incredible strength and the ability to heal very fast.
Full moons. In my fiction, the three days of the full moon– the day before, the day of and the day after—increase the appetites, desire and strength of the werewolf. But the full moon doesn’t control when they shift forms. My werewolves can shift forms at any time they choose though intense emotions can encourage the need to change or the hunger to hunt and kill.
Silver Bullets. There isn’t any one weapon or specific item that can harm a werewolf in my world. Anything that can hurt a human can hurt a werewolf. Of course, it takes much more to kill them and most people would never have the chance to try it before they were ripped to shreds.
Becoming. In my world the only way to become a werewolf is through infection which usually takes place during an attack. Most people attacked by a werewolf never live long enough to become one. But there are a precious few that do.
The Wolfman. I’ve read several books and seen movies where the werewolf becomes a half man and half beast creature instead of an actual wolf. That is actually pretty gross to me. My werewolves go from human to a real wolf. No weird wolfman creatures here. However, my werewolves can and do get claws and fangs while in human form. It’s pretty bad ass. But that’s as far as it goes without a full shift.
Reproduction. My werewolves are generally sterile after the change takes place. Yet like anything, there are those rare exceptions where nature throws a curve ball and either a hybrid is produced or a full blooded Were.
I’m sure there are more “rules” out there that I’m forgetting. Feel free to mention them or mention some of your own.

My werewolf rules :
Immortality — Just like vampires or other immortals were’s have ever lasting life until they are killed, either by decapition, silver enters their blood stream or are set on fire.
Full moons — The day before and the day of the full moon is when the whole wolf transformation takes place. The day before is when they start the whole transformation, very painful. And the night of the full moon is when they transform completely and terrorize the neighborhood, so to speak, until sunrise. In my opinion if they transform anytime before the Full moon they’re just shapeshifters.
Transformation — My wolves transform into big huge scary monsters who will rip things into shreds. I’m not a fan of the regular {animal} wolves. I don’t find those scary in the least.
Silver Bullets — Silver bullets, silver stakes, silver liquid… anything silver will kill them in a matter of at least 30 seconds, all depending on where the silver enters the stream at. Obviously if its closer to the heart it’s faster, and if its further away from the heart it takes longer.
Becoming — I keep them as old school as possible. If you are bitten or scratched by a werewolf and it breaks the skins surface you’ll turn. Also if their blood or saliva mixes in with your wounds. But like yours, only a small few will survive an attack.
Reproduction — Yep. They can reproduce.
Spec. Abilities — Like all other immortals werewolves have super speed, strength, hightend senses. Their body temperatures are higher than ours. Short tempered, because they are animals.
I go for the intimidation factor for my wolves, the more the better.
Thanks for commenting. I personally do think that if I was faced with a real snarling wolf that was going to rip my throat out, I’d be very afraid. Lol. But some people like monsters and that’s ok too. I love to hear how everyone does it their way.
No were rules here…yet. Very interesting post.
