  1. Not a joke. This year someone sent office supplies to my house. A mini stapler, paper clips, post it notes, highlighters. Evidently, someone (ahem my mother) felt I needed these things. LOL.

  2. That would have to be the Leatherman Micra tool that I got for Valentines day. Definitely not the most romantic gift but I use it almost daily, actually I have almost wore it out!

  3. Hey Trina. I already own the awesome first 2 so can I enter for the new one? hehe

My favorite memory is coming down the stairs when I was about 8 years old. I knew I wanted the Barbie Dream House soooo desperately! I nearly cried when I saw nothing big enough under the tree! Well, imagine my surprise when my mom told me to read the card. It said “Look behind the stereo”. There is was! Big and pink and beautiful! My best every Christmas memory.

    • Aw that’s so cute. My mom did something like that for me too once. This certain toy I wanted, one of those Wuzzles (not sure if you remember those) and I was so disappointed when the store was sold out. Course my mom had gotten one before that and surprised me with it. Gotta love those times.

  4. I went into labor with my twin boys on my birthday some years ago. Definitely the scariest and most wonderful gift I’ve ever received.

Thanks for sharing your birthday with us, Trina.

  5. My mum had my BA framed for me and gave it to me for xmas.

It is memorable because the whole family had to cover for her (and prevent me from calling the university and yelling at them). One family member actually had to tell me that she picked it up for me and had it. I visited her once for a few hours but forgot to ask…she told me later that she was not sure what she was going to say should I have remembered that she had it.

It was also the last Christmas we spent together in my grandmother’s house (she had passed away the year before). Very sort of bittersweet but happy in a very odd way.

  6. Lovesy dovesy gave me a bookcase this christmas! And I love it!! Well, apparently it is to keep my books in one place so that he doesn’t trip on them when he goes from the bedroom to the kitchen :)

    Happy birthday Trina!!!

  7. Happy Birthday Trina!!

My most memorable gift would be my car. Got it for my Birthday 8 years ago. It’s paid off and still runs great. LOL!

  8. The first gift that comes to mind is my mother’s ring. It took me so long to find one that I like that my kids gave it to me for Mother’s Day one year. After I knew I was through having kids, I started looking for a mothers ring that I liked. I wanted one in silver – not gold – which is hard to find. Finally I found one I liked that was silver with hearts that were turned the opposite way alternating. The birth stone is in the middle of the heart. I get lots of comments on it and have never seen another one like it. I wear it every day.

    • You were one of the winners I randomly selected! Email me at trinafeil@gmail.com and let me know which of my currently available books you would like. :) Lyric’s Gift will be released on the 21st so you can choose that one if you like.

  9. Happy Birthday, Trina! May you have many more!
The most memorable gift is the ruby and emerald ring designed as a rose which my husband gave me on our 10th wedding anniversary. I still wear it although we will be celebrating our 27th one come December 15th!

  10. Okay. I’m here for the tour. Where’s the lady they said would show me around?

    Nice post, Trina.

  11. My Mum got me a L.A.M.B. Limited Edition travel bag completely filled to the brim with books that she knew I wanted.

  12. One year when I was down on my luck and didnot have a vehicle a friend of mine gave me a pickup he had just bought. I was very overwhelmed and will never forget it.

  13. Once upon a time (*cough cough* two years ago) I was a major gothic little emo kid. And what does my cousin get me for my birthday? None other than a bright white, cheery looking purse with a giftcard to one of those prep stores. And I had to act happy for I was opening it in front of the family. Wow. Can you picture that?

  14. When I was a kid there was one big, huge gift that I just couldn’t wait to open, when I got to close and was about to touch it my dad yelled boo and scared me. When I got to open it it was a huge stuffed multicolred frog. I loved it and slept with it for years.

  15. Me, me, me! I’d love to check out something you’ve written now that we’ve tweeted a bit. :) Awesome contest. Love the stuff you come up with – very creative. :)

As for the gift I received that stands out in my memory… that would have to be coffee and oatmeal on Christmas morning last year. in bed. Made and brought to me by MY SON.

The boy knew I’d been up all night wrapping stuff for the girls, had to cook and do the hostess thing all day and was generally exhausted as I am every year. He brought me a bowlful of oatmeal (okay, it was a little lumpy – I didn’t care!) and a cup of coffee – yes, instant coffee! But again, I didn’t care :) And said, “Thought it was about time someone brought you something to eat in bed.” He was 15. That’s when I knew I was raising him right.

    That’s m’story! :)

  16. I was lucky growing up. My mom believed in making sure that we were really thankful for our gifts and we would remember them. Each year we only got one big gift. I remember we got special blankets one year, I got a radio with a small tv, a bike another year. My favorite was the year that I really wanted this glass vanity that I knew we could not afford. My mom worked extra hours and Christmas morning there it was sitting with a big red bow around it. That was so exciting then and now it shows me how I want my children to feel. Christmas was always exciting for us…with the little money my parents had they made it special.

  17. The gift i remember most is a bright shinny new sled. I do not remember how old i was, only the kids at school kept saying that thier was no santa. I was so upset untill Christmas morning. I knew as soon as I seen the sled thier was a Santa, no matter what the other kids said, because we were very poor at the time with my dad being out of work. Only Santa would be able to afford something like that.

  18. Happy Birthday !!!

The gift I still remember is my DH giving me my engagement ring for Christmas. We were at his aunt’s house and really surprised me!! Of course, we are still together after 40 years!!

  19. Happy birthday, Trina! I’m a December baby, too :) My most memorable gift (not for Christmas) is a journal of sorts that my now-husband kept while we were dating–he gave it to me when he proposed, and I still cherish it. It’s less often that he shares his heart with me so directly, so it’s extra special to be reminded of his feelings so concretely.

Hope you have a wonderful month of celebration!

  20. Wow these are all amazing memories. I am loving them. Thanks for sharing everyone! :)

  21. A family friend gave me a beautiful crystal clock when I moved into my first home about 20 years ago. I have moved a couple of times since then and have always placed the clock in a bathroom.

She passed away this year and ironically the clock stopped, too. I thought it needed a new battery but that didn’t work. I guess the clock is old and jut worn out. I still have the clock sitting on the sink and though it no longer runs, I can’t stand to part with it.

    Thanks,
    Tracey D

  22. When I was quite small we went to stay with relatives. When I woke up in the morning there was multi-coloured hand-knitted snake curled up at the end of my bed.

I loved and kept until it felt apart many, many years later.

  23. My oldest children who are now in their 30′s gave me a watch when they 5 &9.
I still wear it; have replaced the band twice.

  24. This is gonna sound really silly but I got the best present ever for my birthday this year. My fiance had been living two hours away for work, so I never got to see him and for my birthday he got to get transfered so he could live with me!! It was the first real time we have spent my birthday together the two years we have been together :) (And and even though he HATES pro wrestling, he bought my dad and I tickets to see WWE Smackdown and ECW for Christmas this year!!)

  25. Happy Birthday! While my oldest daughter was in the hospital in Minneapolis, a dear friend gave me a silver bell necklace for my birthday. It was made locally and called “A Bell of Hope” the proceeds went to support the Children’s Hospital there. I still wear it daily in memory of my daughter.

  26. A gift that stands out in recent memory, is a Heart necklace from my Husband for our Anniversary last month. I wear it daily..and love it. It reminds me of love(our love) but also acts as a reminder to me for kindness & love toward others and all things positive when I feel it.
    : )

  27. Well, I do remember the first Valentine’s Day card I got from the other half. He wrote my first name and last name on the outside of the card (yeah, he has no explanation for that since we’d known each other for three years already). And he got my last name wrong–not spelled wrong, but wrong as in that-syllable-isn’t-even-in-my-last-name. It’s a good thing he took me out for sushi (he only eats cooked stuff so that was a sacrifice for him).

  28. My daughter who is now 17 has always known what she wants and once she makes up her mind their is no changing it. When she was 4 she decided that I need the control support stockings for Christmas since I was on my feet all day, and no matter what her dad told her she was very determined to get them, that year he got coal from her because she told him he was naughty..

  29. I have to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

  30. I would have to say that I enjoy surprising m sister more then I lovd getting and gift, i remember one year when my sister was nanning she had lved in jersey at the time and was feeling sad that it would be the frist birthday that we wouldnt be able to share it with her well me and my mom decided to surprise her, we got a small cake flower and a card and showed up at her door lol and it was really hard to do lol we had to have the security guard walk us up and knock cause it was in a private apartment building lol so we had him knock and she started to cry when she seen who it was that is my favorit birthday gift even thought it was for my sister and not me i hope that this counts

  31. My winners have been chosen and the contest is now over but thank you to all who entered. I loved your stories. Thanks so much for sharing with me. Merry Christmas!
